Looking back at the progression of making DRY MOON I remember the slow burn of writing and rewriting.  I remember the dogged production over 3 years.  I remember the slog through the logging and assembling.  And the cutting, more cutting.  And now we sit as if unmoving...but inside is the trajectory of movement, the tiny forward motion of kinetic energy which passes for hope to completion.  Music to my ears, and finishing in my heart.  Await.

Just made it out before the sea swallowed us!  Summer is here and we still have hope...tho what was planned for Spring did not come about, we still have hope.  After the summer is secured, we can go back to Dry Moon to see what we can do.  Meanwhile, enjoy the sun sand and sea.

Happy Holidays!!

It would appear that an alien ship has come to make the miracle of completing Dry Moon happen...NOT.
However, we do have progress with scoring and finecutting...if we can just fill the narrative holes and get our score in plac--e the film will be done and then I can die!  NOT.
Then I can sing and dance and live to make my next film!!!!!!!
HELP!  Please send money (or prayers)--and HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEARS TO ALL!

The tastes and smells of summer....

The tastes of summer, the smell of tomatoes ripening on the vine, rub your hand down the vine and smell the delishiousness!  This season we harvest and eat what's fresh and put the rest up for later...

Here is what we are doing:
fine-cut to picture lock
sound recording for all ambient tracks (including foley)
gathering songs and music
titles/credits
lay down all tracks and mix
final output

then comes the FALL

and we sit in the screening and watch Dry Moon and perhaps remember smelling the tomatoes...

This time last summer....

Here is the wish, last summer, now this summer...a gang of five unlikely people to finish my film...for FUN as it should be when one is creating...

The past comes back around for good or for worse.  This time works!
For everyone in Dry Moon!

Spring brings thoughts of love...

...and working to finish Dry Moon.  We have a new team for the summer work schedule and hope to complete this year.  The blossoms come and go, so the trees get bigger and stronger.  That is the work of this film--for all of us involved.  Finally, perhaps soon, we will see the full-grown living art-formed and ready to fly into the hearts and minds of strangers.

a little inspiration

Beautiful evocative graphic from Esther Sumner, my editor and friend who has done so much for Dry Moon!  Inspiration for titling...now just pushing for the music to score.

how many hats?

How many hats does an artist wear?  I guess it depends on the level of commercial success, or interest in commerce.  I have worn so many hats in the production of Dry Moon I wonder how that looks to the outsider (and potential investor)--but I would ask...what is the alternative?  To NOT make the film.  Otherwise it is impossible because it takes so many different skills and talents to make a movie.  There have been those who have quit the project, abandoned hope of ever seeing it finished.  But there are those who have a flicker of hope, and of course me, carrying the torch.

Hope is essential, it is the Top Hat.

Happy 2015--from then until now--

Here we are at the start of another year.  This year will be the year of the Dry Moon!  I think so...we are moving forward on the score--and with the right mix of luck and hours of work--we should be able to finish by Spring, though I can not promise.

To all our folks....thanks for never-ending patience and support!

SUNRISE OR SUNSET

Sunrise and Sunset look so much the same on a cell phone.  Sometimes, after a nap, somebody asks is it today or tomorrow?  I wonder how long until we can finish Dry Moon, is it today or tomorrow?  Sunrise or Sunset?

Gracie's voice is clear and strong, and her music fills the frame!

SO IN MY ABSENCE....

I HAVE BEEN WORKING VERY HARD.  Recuperating from the hell that is life in the modern world.  All the stresses which are completely self-inflicted, all the pain that is created out of thin air...no rhyme or reason for the pain and suffering we cause ourselves on a daily basis.  Just to stay alive has been a no-brainer...now how to live, what to buy, the schedule, the rushing, complaining, the complaining about the complaining.  Pointless when confronted with what truly ails our country and perhaps our world-- which is a moral dilemma...perhaps unanswerable, but if there is any hope it is ART.  Really and truly.  WHAT ELSE????

So I continue with DRY MOON.  I must and will finish soon.  We are now looking for someone to score.  I have musicians who are talented, willing and able.  I have a great friend who has a new recording studio READY WITH THE NECESSARY EQUIPMENT.  So that's good.  But waiting.  The beautiful, lovely Sarah, AKA Gracie Lee, has agreed to sing...now the planets must align and bring it all together to ACCOMPLISH THIS MOST IMPORTANT PHASE.  And this person will come to our project soon...I feel it as certainly as I feel the hope that springs eternal when the MUSE is around...and she is so nearby I hear her whisper to me sometimes, I feel her as she brushes by in the most unexpected moments of my life....soon soon.  I think we will be done by the spring and DRY MOON is beautiful and will be seen by its audience.  Reaching out to our sound designer...you are there and will bring the visuals to fruit--just like the paw-paw trees, we grow together in a group.

GOODNIGHT IRENE...GOODNIGHT DRY MOON INDIEGOGO

Forty days is awhile in the desert...but thanks to friends and colleagues I have resources to continue!  I have realized that the confidence that comes with this type of support is what can keep a project like this alive and moving forward!  Confidence is the key factor in the success of the seemingly impossible dream, that and a case of dry moonshine!  I will continue this blog until the screenings are over and the project can be put to bed!  It is the last leg of a marathon for me and I feel the strength to go the distance thanks to the support I have received from the Indiegogo Campaign--and the well-wishes and contributions of everyone who has been involved.  The contributions have come in many forms over the years, so if ever anyone out there feels that what they want to do is impossible, just look to your friends and like-minded people to help you and chances are you can do it too!  Thanks and cheers!  Fill your cup of Dry Moonshine to the brim and toast to the day we can sit together in a dark room and enjoy the movie...

A MILLION THANKS!!

Thanks to everyone who helped with DRY MOON Indiegogo campaign.  Though we have not made our financial goal, we have raised funds and interest in the film, so it has been very successful!  If you have a few minutes to share the project with friends, or to take a look yourself, please consider supporting the project now in our l1th hour!  It would be wonderful to be able to stay on schedule with the scoring and final editing before we get into final post.  This has been a long and winding project with too many twists and turns to count!  I am so grateful to everyone who has supported the film, IN WAYS TOO NUMEROUS TO MENTION...but you know who you are, and to you I say THANKS FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.  I can't express my gratitude properly, but if I could I would say to each of you who has helped me over the years, a million thanks.  I feel so lucky to have such good friends who have believed in me even when the road ahead seemed closed off and impossible.  I will continue to update until the list of screenings appears and you will have your chance to view the completed film.
